Is Copywriting THAT easy?

words

Many of us think that copywriting is easy but personally for me, it is not as simple as it seems. Copywriting involves more than just writing and in this post, I will list out my work flow when given a copywriting task.

1) Research

Although this is probably the most basic and easiest step when starting on any task given, it is important to first research about what’s presented to you. Researching about the company can help you better understand the organization and allow you to have a better idea of what kind of projects they have handled thus far. Researching about the copy given is also another factor that I like to do as it allows me to understand what is needed from me for my copywriting task.

2) Planning

Now that you have a rough idea on the company you are working with and knowing what you need to achieve for your copywriting task, you need to start planning what exactly you need to do. Certain things include:

  • How do I make my copy appealing to my target audience?
  • What are the main points I want to include in my copy?
  • What kind of tone should I use for my copy?

These are of course just some of the things I think through during this stage. It is beneficial for you to ask yourselves as much questions as it helps you have a clearer understanding of what needs to be done to ensure your copy turns out well.

3) Implementation

Now that I’m more or less done with the thought process, this is when I will start writing and putting everything into place.

4) Polishing

Polishing your work is important as this is a good time for you to go through your copy to ensure that there are no grammar, spelling and punctuation errors. This will also be the time where you can make your edits if you feel you have additional things to include or take out from your copy.  Polishing your copy is important before turning it in as your final one to ensure that everything flows nicely and that everything is in place as how you want it to be.

Generally, this is my work flow and what I usually do when given a copywriting task. How about you? Do you have other things that you follow through when working on a copy? Share with us!
