Copywriting 101

#1 Ensure your headline holds value
Just like many others, we often refer to the headline of a copy first before reading the rest. This is the reason why such great emphasis is put in creating an attention grabbing headline that works for our target audience.

As quoted from David Ogilvy, “On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy.”

#2 Knowing what to put in your copy
It is important to ensure that you do not include too much….. or too little as well. Picking out the main points that you want to bring across to your target audience helps in determining what exactly you need in your copy. If elaboration is needed to emphasize your points, be careful not to write too much in an entire paragraph as readers mostly prefer straight and direct copies.

#3 Placement of information & visuals
There is a certain flow to how our brains absorb information when we are reading something. It is crucial to take note of this point to ensure that our copy does not confuse our readers. Visuals also play an important part as they can either make or break your copy.  Putting in the right visuals to support your texts at the right place will help enhance your copy. However, this could only work if done properly to support both the texts and visuals.

#4 Picking the right tone
If you’re targeting your copy to teenagers, you want to ensure that the tone you use fits just that. Likewise, if it is a copy for potential business partners, you might want to stay away from baby language. Finding the right tone for your copy allows your target audience to relate well with what you’re trying to bring across. This will then ensure that your copy is well understood.
